Tekken 8

Opinion

We take a look at the best cosmetics the Tekken 8 Fight Pass: Round 2 has to offer, and answer the question: Is it worth it?

The TEKKEN 8 Fight Pass: ROUND 2 is live in-game and introduces a whole host of new cosmetics including new portraits, clothing, banners, accessories and even artwork. We take a look at the best it has to offer.

Lawrence “Malystryx” Phillips

The TEKKEN 8 Fight Pass costs 600 Tekken Coins and will run for 60 days. All the rewards you earn from the Fight Pass Round 2 will be yours forever, and most character cosmetics are available to either all male or all female characters. There are exceptions such as hats, glasses and accessories which can be applied to any playable character.

The new TEKKEN Fight Pass launches at the same time as the 3-days of early access toLidia Sobieska, the DLC character for Summer 2024. Although any hype around her arrival was neutered by Bandai Namco doing a character trailer forHeihachijust two days before her launch at EVO 2024. Fortunately we have a shiny new Fight Pass to enjoy.

Is TEKKEN 8 Fight Pass: ROUND 2 worth it?

The previous Fight Pass became a bit of a meme for some of the low-quality cosmetics that were bundled into it - any one rememberthe infamous Ball? So, it’s fair to say players' hopes weren’t incredibly high for what Bandai Namco is calling Fight Pass: Round 2.

A good chunk of the new TEKKEN 8: Fight Pass does feel like filler, as there aren’t that many rewards that stand out if you’re not into Avatar cosmetics, banners or panels. There are also eight levels with Profile poses for Asuka, Paul, Yoshimitsu, Jack-8, Panda, Lili, Reina and Kuma, all of which are pretty underwhelming with the exception of perhaps Paul’s and Jack-8’s.

Overall though, it’s definitely an improvement on the first Fight Pass, with several of the free Rewards actually pretty decent if you play female characters.

Premium Pass or Premium Pass Plus?

This may seem like a dilemma but it’s not. 100% do NOT buy the Premium Pass Plus. Even playing Ranked for an hour or so you’ll get around 10 Levels. With two months to complete it and only 60 levels, it’s not worth paying extra $$$ just to get a 20 Level head start.

If in the future the Premium Pass Plus came with unique rewards then potentially might be worth it, but since the rewards are identical it’s a no from me. (and should be a no from you)

You can upgrade your free Fight Pass Round 2 to a Premium Pass with 600 TEKKEN coins

Top 10 Cosmetics and Items in The Tekken 8 Fight Pass: Round 2

Here’s a rundown of my personal top 10 cosmetics & rewards from Tekken 8 Fight Pass: Round 2. As a general rule I personally do not rank cosmetics for your Avatar character or banners particularly high on the must-have list. I’ve taken into account both the free and Premium rewards!

Remember you’re able to try on all of the cosmetics in the Character Customization Menu, even if you haven’t got the Fight Pass, to see they might match the rest of your outfit.

10. Banner - TEKKEN Fest (Level 21 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

Usable by: All Characters

You might miss this one on your first look through the TEKKEN 8 Fight Pass, but the Banner is an Accessory item. It’s the second of its kind in TEKKEN 8 and it’s a nice touch of Asian culture. Character wise it doesn’t suit everyone, and outside of the obvious recipient - Yoshimitsu - it looks decent on Raven, Panda and Kuma.

Few drawbacks though. You can’t adjust the size, direction or position of the Banner. You also can’t equip more than one, so you can’t use your second Accessory slot to have a second banner. Because of these restrictions I ranked it 10th.

Harada lied! Heihachi Mishima is Tekken 8’s next DLC character

Despite Harada himself claiming Heihachi totally died at the end of Tekken 7, it seems he survived and is Tekken 8’s Autumn DLC character. We explore how he might have done it.

9. Leopard High-Top Sneakers (Level 20 Free Reward)

One of the freebies you get even if you don’t buy the Fight Pass, the Leopard High-Top Sneakers are a good option. Shoes typically in TEKKEN 8 are fairly plain, but the print on these is very eye-catching especially if you change from the default brown colors.

8. Patent Leather Pleated Skirt (Level 40 Free Reward)

Usable by: Alisa, Asuka, Azucena, Jun, Lili, Nina, Reina, Xiaoyu, Zafina & Lidia

TEKKEN 8 has over a dozen skirts but many are fairly generic, leading to people either just opting for the Ripped Shorts or the Double-Line Miniskirt and Hemline Miniskirt. While this new Patent Leather Pleated Skirt is only monochrome, it looks a bit classy plus has a reflective quality much like the Sequined Camisole higher up my list.

7. Checkered Pants (Level 18 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

Love these pants, and they come with a belt as well. Bonus that they are wearable by all characters and they’re a little baggy. While they’re not the most flattering pants, they’re definitely a lot more interesting than the majority of the choices since the TEKKEN 8 launch. Checkered Pants are a Lower Body cosmetic so you’ll have to unequip any Entire Body outfit you’re wearing. Colors of the pants can be customized.

6. Two-Tone Glasses (Level 14 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

The Two-Tone Glasses are the first glasses in TEKKEN 8 where you’re able to alter each lens color individually. By default they look like 3D cinema glasses from the early noughties, but with a bit of customization you can really make them yours. On King or Kuma these glasses just look memeworthy but on Bryan or Dragunov they give off supervillain vibes.

5. Flipped-Out Short Bob (Level 10 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

Let’s face it, more than half of the choices for female Hair cosmetics look awful. Enter the Flipped-Out Short Bob. This hairstyle is a good fit for almost all characters, but especially cute on Asuka, Lili and Xiaoyu.

4. Newsboy Cap (Level 4 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

Usable by: All characters

Peaker Blinder-esque and a very early Reward in the Premium Fight Pass, the Newsboy Cap is pretty unique compared to other Head items, plus you can customize the colors. Surprisingly you get it at Level 4. For some reason though it generally looks better on female characters.

3. Rubber Mask (Level 54 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

Channel your inner-Kanye with the Rubber Mask cosmetic. Totally stupid but usable by all characters. This is a Full Face cosmetic so it does mean you cant simultaneously use it with any Hair, Glasses, Facial Hair or Head items. That said, if you’re putting a Rubber Mask on your character anyway, its probably to match an outrageous costume.

2. Sequined Camisole (Level 60 free Reward)

Usable by: Alisa, Asuka, Azucena, Jun, Lili, Nina, Reina, Xiaoyu, Zafina & Lidia

The Level 60 free reward is a Sequined Camisole for all female characters. It’s an Upper Body cosmetic which reflects light, and definitely suits the more gentile female characters as Jun, Alisa, Xiaoyu and Lily. While Azucena may not seem like the gentile type, you might want to try her out wearing this outfit, for scientific research.

1. Afro hairstyle (Level 59 Premium Fight Pass Reward)

The Level 59 reward for the Premium Pass is an Afro which can be used for all characters. Lots of fun, especially when you put it on characters known for being deadpan like Bryan or Dragunov. Considering how many of the non-standard hairstyles are awful, its nice to have one that works for both men and women.
