Ultimate Endgame Brings Together Two Years of Marvel Stories

Literally Anything Can Happen as the Maker Makes His Grand Return

In 2023, Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch’sUltimate Invasionsfollowed as the Maker claimed an alternate reality as his own, messing with the timeline to either corrupt or de-power Marvel’s iconic superheroes. In the conclusion of the series,Tony Stark’s father trapped the Makerin his own time-prison lab for two years -two years for Marvel’s heroes to rise up and save the world.

Heroes corrupted by the Maker include the Hulk, X-Men’s Colossus and Moon Knight. Meanwhile, he has killed off the Fantastic Four, the Sentry and Black Bolt.

The Ultimate Universe is a place where Marvel can do anything. In this new continuity, Marvel doesn’t need to revert to the status quo or protect certain characters.

Since then, series such asThe Ultimates,Ultimate WolverineandUltimate Spider-Manhave followed along in real time, with each comic covering another month gone until the Maker’s return. Inside his prison, the Maker is experiencing relative centuries - potentially even millennia - allowing him to evolve and prepare for his reemergence. And even as Tony Stark’s Ultimates have fought the vast web of villainous control the Maker left behind, they’ve learned via time travel that they have seemingly no hope whatsoever of victory.

The Maker is an evil version of Reed Richards from an alternate reality. He was recently imprisoned on Marvel’s mainstream Earth-616, developing a deep hatred for the planet’s heroes. After escaping, he used the heroes' stolen tech to rewrite Earth-6160 as his personal playground.

The reboot reinterpreted Marvel continuity from scratch in an attempt to simplify and update the company’s 60-year history for modern audiences. With famous comic book writers such as Brian Michael Bendis, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar at the helm, the Ultimate universe (named Earth-1610 within the Marvel multiverse) lasted 15 years and provided plenty of inspiration for the MCU.
