Mandy PatinkinandViolett Beanemust work together to dismantle powerful forces at play when a man is mysteriously murdered in the dead of night.
In a trailer exclusively shared with PEOPLE, Hulu’sDeath and Other Detailsis “set amidst the glamour of the global elite” and “centers on the brilliant and restless Imogene Scott (Beane)” after she finds herself in the wrong place and the wrong time.
“To prove her innocence, she must partner with a man she despises—Rufus Cotesworth (Patinkin), the world’s greatest detective,” the summary concludes.

As the trailer begins, Beane’s Imogene says she “can’t believe we’re going to be trapped on this thing for 10 days” as she boards the ship with her best friend Anna (Lauren Patten), who quips: “I’m so sorry I dragged you into this.”
Housekeeping staff later knock on doors as the ship sets sail, eventually entering one particular room to find it in disarray. Clothes are strewn across the floor, a small carafe of ketchup has split and an expensive watch is left broken on the table.
“Pay attention, if you want to solve a crime, you must first learn to see through the illusion. Details matter,” Patinkin’s Rufus Cotesworth says in a voiceover before a maid finds a guest murdered with a piercing wound through his abdomen.

“Yesterday, one of our guests were murdered,” the cruise director informs a group of gathered patrons before the scene shifts to security camera footage. The day before, Imogene witnesses the murder victim screaming at a service worker after she accidentally spills a drink.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me! This watch is worth more than you make in a year,” he exclaims as Imogene watches from afar. Vowing to teach him a lesson, she sneaks into his stateroom in the middle of the night and crushes the glass in his watch. When surveillance tapes catch her exiting his room, she becomes the prime suspect in the case.

“We’ve increased security throughout the ship to keep everyone safe,” the director continues. “And we’re fortunate to have a world renowned detective onboard. Mr. Rufus Cotesworth.”
As Imogene makes a sound of disbelief, Cotesworth quips, “Should I introduce myself?”
“In 24 hours, interpol lands on this ship,” he says as the hunt for the killer swings into full gear. When Scott declares her innocence, Cotesworth agrees and acknowledges that “anyone on the ship could have killed the victim.”

The detective launches his investigation and begins to question everybody aboard the ship. As feathers become ruffled, one suspect claims the victim was “a buffoon” while another says he’s “never met him.” Some threaten to “not make an enemy out of us.” But one thing becomes clear — not all of the players have a solid alibi.
Imogene and Cotesworth eventually team up to solve the mystery. When she asks if he needs her to “spy,” he replies, “I need you to trust me.”
Though the duo may deal with “forces at play” that they “cannot comprehend,” with “billions on the line,” they must work together to solve the “puzzle” and “make the pieces fit.”
