Magnetohas just unleashed his boldest look to date, rivaling the launch of his iconic helmet. To commemorate the 30th anniversary ofAge of Apocalypse, Marvel will releaseX-Men: Age of Revelation. This event will give fans glimpses of a dark future ruled by Apocalypse’s heir, and one where Magneto has his most hardcore look yet.
Marvel announcedX-Men: Age of Revelationearlier today. The book, which will be written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Humberto Ramos, takes readers ten years into the future, to a mutant utopia.

Marvel released little in the way of plot information, but did reveal Ryan Stegman’s cover, which features Magneto with a cape made of metallic shards.
Magneto Is One of Marvel’s Coolest “Anti-Heroes”
Magneto’s Coolness Partially Stems From His Character’s Redemption Arc
Magneto is an icon of the Marvel Universe, with a character arc unlike any seen before, especially as he started as a villain. Introduced alongside the X-Men, Magneto was perhaps the biggest thorn in the young team’s side. Magneto believed in the supremacy of the mutant race, and was willing to achieve his goals by extreme means.
Over time, Magneto’s ideology was tempered, and he began one of the greatest redemption arcs in comic history.

Over time, Magneto’s ideology was tempered, and he began one of the greatest redemption arcs in comic history. Instead of a genocidal warlord, Magneto was revealed to be a Holocaust survivor, which greatly influenced his views on humanity. Magneto saw first-hand what happened to people who were different, and vowed it would never happen again.
Magneto’s Costume Works on Multiple Levels
Magneto’s Helmet Is One of His Greatest Defenses Against Professor X
Magneto’s backstory, and his transformation into anti-hero and mutant savior, have made him one of the most memorable X-Men, but his iconic costume no doubt also contributes to his coolness factor. Its bright red color scheme ensures the focus is on Magneto. Magneto’s costume is a point of resistance for him as he defies the dominant power structures.
In 2011’sX-Men: First Class, Magneto obtained his helmet by defeating Sebastian Shaw.
Of course, there is also Magneto’s iconic helmet. While the story of how Magneto obtained it differs across mediums, it has become one of his trademarks. With it, Magneto can hide his thoughts from even the strongest of telepaths. The helmet works on a functional level, and it helps Magneto cut a more imposing figure as well.
The Age of Revelationis giving Magneto one of his hardest-going costumes yet.
The Age of Revelationis giving Magneto one of his hardest-going costumes yet. The event sees Revelation (Doug Ramsey) create a mutant utopia, but one built on a lie. A group of X-Men have come together to oppose Revelation, and set things back to the way they were. What role Magneto plays inAge of Revelationremains to be seen.
Yet whateverAge of Revelationhas in store for the Master of Magnetism, his new costume is hardcore. The colors are not as bright as his 616 counterpart, but there is still no mistake: this is Magneto. His new costume mirrors the dark world Revelation has created, perhaps hinting at Magneto’s role in this reality.
Magneto’s New Cape Should Give His Enemies Pause
Could Magneto’s Metallic Cape Make Its Way to Earth-616?
What truly makes this Magneto’s best costume to date is its cape. As noted earlier, it is composed of shards of metal, brought together to resemble his classic purple cape. Given Magneto’s powers, he can easily turn pieces of his cape into lethal weapons. Magneto is in essence carrying an entire arsenal in his cape.
While Magneto’s new look is exclusive toAge of Revelation, there is a chance it could come to Earth-616. Some elements ofAge of Apocalypse, such as X-Man, eventually carried over to the mainstream Marvel Universe, thus opening the door forMagneto’sdarkest look to one day appear there as well.
X-Men: Age of Revelation#0 will be available July 16 from Marvel Comics!
