KOI organization journey

In 2021, one of the biggest Spanish streamers and LoL casters Iban LLanos, alongside the FC Barcelona ex-player, Gerard Piqué, brought MAD Lions to the KOI organization and renamed the team MAD Lions KOI, as we know them today.

In 2022, after winning LEC,Rogueannounced a merger with the KOI. The organization became responsible for two teams in the European League of Legends championship. All Rogue teams rebranded as KOI but their partnership didn’t go well and the team was reestablished one year later.

MAD Lions KOIis a name with a very significant meaning for Spanish fans: MAD came from Madrid, the city where the team was born. The lion, the gold main symbol we always see, represents the lions from the Cibeles Fountain, a very important monument in the city. KOI is the name of the organization. Besides the lion, they also represented Madrid with the seven stars coming from the capital’s flag.

On his livestream, Ibai was letting his community be part of the MAD Lions KOI rebrand by choosing what colors they wanted to see. This is very uncommon since it’s not every day we see an organization owner let the fans be part of the creative process.
