Batwomanis in an interesting position among TV shows, being one of the earlier series to restart its production, but also having to work around the retirement of previous star Ruby Rose. Thankfully it seems there hasn’t been much conflict or struggle behind the scenes as of yet, with new star Javicia Lesliealready getting comfortable in the role. Just recently she took to Instagram to offer an exclusive peek at the new season’s costume design.
On the show Leslie plays Ryan Wilder, who will be taking up the mantle of Batwoman from Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane. In her post she wrote: ““Look out, Gotham, I’m suited up and ready to go. But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit.” In terms of personality, Ryan Wilder is quite different from Kate Kane, and it seemsshe’s getting a Batwoman outfitthat’s just a little bit tweaked to fit her unique character and style.

The most obvious change is the mask, which seems to have slightly harsher edges and a shape more in line with Batman’s iconic cowl. Unfortunately the image cuts off right at the shoulders, meaning audiences likely won’t get any info on what else has changed until promo materials release a more complete picture. While the cowl has been tweaked slightly, there is, as we’ve seen with the various incarnations of Batman over the years, a lot that can be done to make the batsuit unique to its actor while keeping the overall look audiences expect.
While theBatwomanshow has no real connection to the ongoing DC Cinematic Universe, it is part of the “Arrowverse,” which includes most of DC’s current ongoing TV shows. Though the Arrowverse is obviously working on a smaller budget, it’s been no less ambitious, featuring several crossovers between shows, including one hugecontinuity shaking event based onCrisis On Infinite Earthswhich involved nearly every show currently running.Batwomanitself is set to crossover with the still-in-productionSuperman & LoisTV show in 2021, assuming both shows are still operating on schedule. Until then, audiences will have to wait and see how the next Batwoman takes on Gotham.
