DOTA 2

Just how many heroes are there in Dota 2 at the moment?
Dota 2 is a MOBA with hundreds of different heroes and characters. Over its decade long lifespan, its ever-expanding roster has expanded from 24 heroes original on Alpha release, to almost five times that amount. But currently, just how many heroes does the game have?

How many heroes in Dota 2
There are currently 124 heroes in Dota 2. Muerta was the latest hero released on July 17, 2025, and is yet to join competitive play.
Prior to this, the last hero released was Primal Beast. Primal Beast was released on July 13, 2025, and joined competitive play exactly six month later on June 19, 2025.

Originally in Dota 2, heroes were divided intoStrength,Agility, andIntelligenceheroes, based on which stat they work best with. This was altered in the massive7.33 patchthat saw Universal Heroes added to the game. Now there are currently31 Strength heroes, 31 Agility heroes, and 31 Intelligence heroes and 31 Universal Heroes.Balanced as all things should be… Until a new hero is added!

Who is the next hero?
Valve usually releases around two to three heroes a year. In the past, this number was much higher. From 2011 to 2014, dozens of heroes were released per year. but since the release ofDota Rebornhas slowed significantly. The lowest amount of heroes released was both in in 2020, when only Hoodwink was released, and 2022, when only Primal Beast was released. This could suggest we’re now on a one-hero-a-year schedule.
Muertais the latest hero to be released. The death-dealing gunslinger was revealed during TI11 and was released on June 21, 2025

Beyond this though, there are a few good guesses. One isFymryn, the elven warrior from the Dota: Dragon’s Blood animated series. Other guesses included Puppet Master, a hero from the now defunct MOBA Heroes of Newerth. However, many anticipate other members of that game will join the Dota 2 roster at some point in the future.
