July 25 saw the release ofGran Turismo 7‘s 1.49 update, which introduced a game-breaking but undeniably hilarious glitch. Instead of moving forward and obeying the top-notch physics that the series is known for, cars inGran Turismo 7can now just blast off vertically and become mostly uncontrollable.

As originally noted byVGC, the Internet is already filled with demonstrations of the update in action:

Please note that I wasn’t joking when I used the words “blast off into space”. That first clip was but a taste to prepare readers to the full extent of the update’s “power”:

The trail of smoke left by the car almost makes this serious glitch go from very funny to just plain beautiful.

Most clips tend to feature the VW Van in such predicaments. This originally led me to believe the glitch was only or mostly just affecting this vehicle, but it turns out the glitch has to do with car settings, not with any particular car. It seems as if pretty much any vehicle runs the risk of turning into a makeshift space shuttle. Developer Polyphony Digital has already apologized for the inconvenience and states that it’s currently working on a fix.

The weirdest part is that the glitch is so prevalent that it’s even affectingGran Turismo 7’scutscenes:

As well as the VR mode:

Once this beautiful mess gets fixed, Update 1.49 will allow players to properly revisit Eiger Norwand, a popular track fromGran Turismo 6, and gain access to six more cars. Until then, you can give the Polyphony Space Program a try on PlayStation 5.
