With their departure from the LCS last month, the Golden Guardians are now gone from social media and their website has been taken down.
Golden Guardians, the US-based esports organization owned and operated by NBA team the Golden State Warriors has seemingly entirely ceased to operate following its departure from the LCS.
On Dec. 21 it was noted that the organization’sTwitter/X pageno longer existed, instead returning the stock “This account doesn’t exist” message. This was brought to the wider attention of Golden Guardians' remaining fans by former social media managerReba Robinson.
The Golden Guardian’swebsitenow also returns a brief message detailing the team’s departure from the LCS: “With Riot Games' decision to shift the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) from a 10-team league to an eight-team league, we have made the difficult decision that the Golden Guardians will no longer compete in the LCS. Riot Games has been an incredible partner since we joined the LCS in 2018, and we know there are exciting times ahead for the sport.”
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our fans, players and staff for their dedication over the last five years. It is because of the hard work and commitment of our players, coaches and staff, and the incredible support of our fans, that the Golden Guardians were able to achieve so much during this exciting time.”
Reportedly the team’sLinkedInis now unregistered. Only the team’s YouTube Channel and Discord Server remain. However, much of the Golden Guardian’s existence has been wiped from the internet in one fell sweep.

The Golden Guardians were founded in November, 2017, to compete in the 2018 LCS season, and immediately started off with controversy after coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoon-seop was dismissed by the Golden State Warriors in February 2018 for making“inappropriate remarks towards a female member of Riot Games' esports staff.”
In 2019, the team dramatically expanded into multiple esports including Apex Legends, Teamfight Tactics, World of Warcraft, with plans for a Rocket League squad. They were also affiliated with the NBA 2K League’s Warriors Gaming Squad. However, almost none of these rosters weathered the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving only the LCS squad and Super Smash bros. players remaining.
The team were a perennial mid-table team in the LCS, with their best ever results coming only in 2023. The team shocked many when they finished second place in the LCS 2023 Spring Playoffs, turning a sixth-place regular season spot into a trip to MSI. They repeated the feat during LCS 2023 Summer, heading to the LCS Championship, but missed out on a Worlds 2023 spot, falling to the LEC’s Team BDS.
In late November, the organization, along with Evil Geniuses,announced their departure from the LCS.
