A few days ago, the gaming world seemed to grind to a complete halt as the G4TV,X-Play, andAttack of the Show!Twitter accountsall simultaneously tweeted a cryptic teaser trailer accompanied by the phrase, “We never stopped playing.” Whileteasing G4’s returncaused many to cheer, it made others stop and wonder what this new G4TV would look like. It seems like those answers may get answered sooner than expected with an AMA on the G4TV subreddit tomorrow.
G4 was a massively popular channel dedicated to all things video games and tech. However, following the exit ofX-Playco-host Adam Sessler andAttack of the Show!co-host Kevin Pereira and the cancellation of both of these shows, NBC Universal ultimately rebrandedG4TV as The Esquire Channelin 2012, featuring a multitude of shows not related to the channel’s original programming.

For the curious masses wonderingwhat this new G4TV could look like, the answers are coming very soon. On July 31 at 8 am PT, G4TV will be having an AMA about the return of the gaming channel hosted by Blair Herter. Herter, among many things, previously worked as both a producer and occasional co-host on bothX-PlayandAttack of the Show!and is now working as the VP of Content Partnerships and Brand Development for the new G4TV.
To say that fans are excited would be quite an understatement. Many former viewers of G4TV’s content have taken to social media to share their favorite memories of watching the channel. Some notable figures, likeWWE’s Xavier Woods, have begun campaigning to become one of the channel’s new hosts.
While many answers will be answered at the AMA, that hasn’t stopped many fromwondering which G4 showscould be making a return, in addition to what the new G4TV will do to set itself apart. When it was on television, G4 didn’t have much competition in the way of informative gaming-related programming. However, with the boom of Twitch and other streaming services, shows likeX-PlayandAttack of the Show!might not be able to make it based on name recognition and nostalgia alone. Hopefully, this is proven wrong when G4TV returns in 2021.
